There are numerous credit couseling agencies available, but I have dealt with none so can make no recommendations there. The basic advice is to pay your bills, in full and on time. That will fix it quickly enough.

It’s going to take time. There is not a quick fix, which is why it’s important to maintain good credit.
Pay your bills on time. Pay your utilities in advance if you can.
Try to pay down your credit card balances. Pay off your lowest credit card balances first, if you have any credit cards. Create a budget and make reasonable adjustments as needed. Start saving money. Pay yourself first each month. Learn to distinguish between needs and wants.

There is no special service to fix credit history…unless your identity was stolen.
Typically, only major accounts will show a negative impact on your credit score (credit cards, rent payment, mortgage payment, etc.) if you payment history was less than desirable.
Everything will drop off after 5-7 years. I recommend paying down debt overtime and not keeping large lines of credit open. Lendors see this as potential debt especially if there has been a past history.
Good luck.

The problem with all the debt fixing companies is that so many are scams. They charge you money (money that you could put on debt) and often just trash your credit completely.
It’s hard and it takes time, but you are much better off doing it yourself. Tackle one debt at a time. Concentrate on that one while making minimum payments on the rest. It gets easier as the debts get fewer.
It will take you 2 or 3 years to clear up your debt. But it’s worth the effort.

Paying your bills on time is the best route. Going to a credit counseling place will show on your credit report under the same category as bankruptcy (my friend did this, then found out when she wanted to buy a house).
You could call the utility companies and find out if they have a yearly plan where you pay the same amount year round. Then you’d know exactly how much you have available to pay your bills with.
Set up a budget and stick with it. You can find budget sheets in many stores that carry business supplies. Or just make your own on your computer or with a piece of paper.
It will take time but it’s worth it to have good credit.

I quote from the 2007 edition of the Consumer Action Handbook published by our Government.
“If the information is accurate, only time, hard work and a personal debt repayment plan will improve your credit report. Credit repair companies advertise that they can erase bad credit for a hefty fee. Don’t believe it”.

Beware of companies that promise to help you re-establish your credit for a fee. Their ability to change the information that appears in your credit file is no different than anyone else! Only your creditors are able to alter this information. Therefore you do not need to pay a third party to obtain, discuss, review or make changes to your credit report. You have the right to access your information and make changes to your file if there is an inaccuracy or if you want to include a comment.
Remember this when it comes to hiring a credit repair company
A credit bureau will not remove accurate negative information from your credit report before the legal time period has expired. Therefore, do not believe anyone who claims they can get negative information removed from your credit report faster than is legally required.
There are no “loopholes” or laws that credit repair companies can use to get correct information off your credit report.
No credit repair company can do anything you can’t do for yourself. It is impossible for a third party to make changes in your file if the facts have been correctly reported.
The only way to rectify a poor credit rating is to adopt sound credit practices for a period of time.
