How do I get a good Credit Score if no one will give me a Credit Card ?

Ivan Aleksandr asked:

I am 19 and live in the UK. I wanted to get a Credit Card to build my Credit Score for later in life. The bad thing is no one will give me any Credit Card because I don’t have a Credit Score. How can I get a good Score if no one will give me a Card to build my Score ?

look for a secured creditcard. Stores with their own credit cards might work as well. Not sure how it works in the UK, but in the USA you also build up credit by paying bills.

You need to start up by opening a contract with any cell phone company, opening a savings and checking account. Wait 3 months and later apply for a retail store (Retail stores usually gives out credit cards easily like Victorias Secret. Then you can apply for Credit Cards.

FYI- Do not go crazy taking credit cards. I owed around $5000 in credit card debts got unemployed and now dont have money to pay it. This people are hell is like you are their slaves. Be very careful which bank you use and watch interest rate as its usually high for people with no credit score.

As Erik mentioned, get a secured credit card.

Learning to be responsible with a secured credit card will go a long way in making you ready for a unsecured credit card.

There is no reason to rush, take your time and you will find rewards are well worth the wait as you learn the responsibility of establishing and keeping good credit. People that rush into credit cards, often end up in trouble.

Look for some credit card companies with co-signers. Sometimes some credit cards don’t require a co-signer, but they require you to have some sources like checking account and also have a job. Or secure card would be another deal, you use your own money to buy thing and then pay. After a year or so, your score is now good enough for them to trust you and you can withdraw back your money and they’ll let you borrow their money. It takes time, don’t feel bad :) As long as you have a checking account and have a job! You are good to go… And yeah! Later all different kinds of companies will send mails to your house asking you to join them lol…

You don’t build a good credit score with a credit card. Banks and been running this scam for years and years. Just save your money and pay with cash. Build a savings account FIRST. And with a respectable balance, you might get a card.

I haven’t had any credit cards for over 24 years. Hasn’t stopped us from buying a home (3 yrs ago).

Secured credit card is the way to go, often for a reasonable balance of $500-$1000 to begin with, and you can go from there. Most banks will remove the security portion after 12-18 months of clean repayment – learn more on how to get credit, easily, here:
