how much is the ideal number of credit accounts for good credit score?
anurag m asked:
My credit report shows that I have 17 accounts (11 open, 6 closed) and rates me as “D” (below average) in the TOTAL NO. OF CREDIT ACCOUNTS category. So does it mean I should I increase my number of accounts or decrease accounts to maintain better score?

decrease, to 3 or 4. then pay faithfully for a year, and check your score again.

A credit score is based on a 12 month activity. It usually goes up between 5 to 10% per month.
The problem is you have too many credit cards. You should only need two major credit cards. One for every day use and one for emergency. Cancel all other cards, It will not lower your credit score. After 24 months of activity, it should be between 660/749 which is good. Excellent is 750/840.
